What is Long-term EEG Testing?

A long-term in-home EEG (AEEG) is typically ordered when a physician needs more data from a patient’s brain than what was previously recorded from the Routine EEG, aiding in a more accurate diagnosis and specialized treatment plan. AON makes long-term EEG testing possible by using a lightweight portable device (amplifier) with a carrying pouch, making it possible for patients to undergo testing with no interruption in daily activities. Video recording is used to correlate clinical manifestations with EEG data for accurate diagnosis, decreasing the risk of misdiagnosis. All long-term EEG studies conducted by AON are monitored by credentialed EEG technologists to ensure the best patient care.

How It Works

In-home Testing

A trained EEG technologist performs the test in the patient’s residence, ensuring their comfort and reducing the hassle of hospital visits.

Standard Activations

The EEG technologist may perform activations in an effort to increase the diagnostic yield of the test. The most common activations are:

Periods of eye-opening and eye closure
Mental stimulation (series of questions)
Photic stimulation (flashing lights)
Hyperventilation (deep, rapid breathing)

These activities are designed to provoke brain activity that reveals crucial information about the patient’s neurological health.
